How does obi100 work

I am guessing you probably know that already! Obihai also offers 2 higher end models, the OBi and OBi which can support up to 4 accounts. Great news! The OBi are available now! If you want the OBi you will have to wait another week or so… they will be shipping on November 23rd! Just in time for the Black Friday rush!

Small, about the size of a compact hard drive. Came well packed from the 'Egg. Has excellent instrucitons included for getting it up and running with Google Voice account. No charge for USA or Canada calls. Overall Review: This is a much better alternative than falling into the Magic Jack nightmare.

Easy to set up with Google Voice with included instructions. Just make sure you do a little reading on their web site on how to go about everything. Good customer support. I should have done this sooner.

Kudos to NewEgg for having these on sale. Voice Mail Audio Alert as well via "Stutter" Dial Tone when getting ready to make a call, and the list goes on and on. Otherwise, just use your Cell Phone for Needs. Any old Cell phone active or inactive can always dial in USA. I have used them both for a couple of years now, and the NetTalk Duo works extremely well compared to the old Magic Jack.

On my end, I can usually hear them just fine. With all of the great reviews, how could I go wrong! Believe it or not, they are much better than my expensive Ma-Bell landline, and the audio volume is loud and clear as well as being Full Duplex just like a traditional landline phone. I found that the NetTalk and Magicjack behaved more like a speaker phone or walkie-talkie allowing audio to travel only in one direction at a time which is very hard to get used to since you tend to cut off each others sentences when holding a conversation with these other devices.

The Obi does not suffer from these problems at all, and there appears to be virtually no audio delay. Also, since my son is in the service, it's very convenient for him to take his Obi with him and connect it to the internet wherever he is in the world, and he can enjoy instant phone service and we can directly dial each other's Obi Units and talk for FREE on the ObiTalk Network at any time. Pros: - Very simple setup. For me PAP2T didn't work that well: it didn't support Google Voice, I never managed to make faxing work through sipgate but even worse was that PAP2T was hard to set up, and eventually it would periodically flood my home network so that all network traffic would slow to the crawl.

Now this little box comes along, and I got it set up in a matter of minutes, with google voice working great, with very good sound quality and even with fax support. SipGate support out of the box had issues, but after exchanging a couple of emails with the tech support, I got the setting I needed to change STUN server set to stun.

Overall, could not be happier, and recommend to everyone. Black or dark gray plastic would last longer. It is very reliable and voice quality is about as good as landlines assuming a stable Internet connection. Localphone has low rates for outgoing calls on a pay per call basis.

Having two service providers gives you the flexibility of having one for incoming calls and one for outgoing calls. You could also receive calls from both providers, although with a single phone jack you can't answer both calls simultaneously. Many VoIP providers support the Obihai adapters without a fixed monthly fee that are very economical for low outgoing call volumes. If you make a lot of outgoing calls, a yearly plan such as Vestalink or Anveo may be justifiable.

Pros: When setup correctly these things work flawlessly. Your only obligation: a few bucks' worth of monthly taxes and fees. Alas, it sold out quickly. More than a few commenters suggested an alternative: the Obihai OBi, which can pair with Google Voice among other services for totally free calls. And talk about a cosmic coincidence: today the sucker's on sale. I'm not intimately familiar with this device, but it appears to work much like an Ooma or MagicJack Plus.

You plug your existing cordless phone system into the the OBi, plug the OBi into your router, and presto: you've got dial tone. Actually, there's a bit more to the setup than that, at least with this device, as you have to configure it for use with your Google Voice account or another service, like Sipgate. But once that's done, you should be looking at totally free local and long-distance calling forever. Update: At the moment, Google Voice will be offering free calling only through the end of It's unknown whether Google will extend that.

However, the OBi works with a variety of services, including Sipgate One , which is indeed free for life. So even if Google starts charging for phone service, you should be able to find a freebie alternative.
